Moutere Artisans Open Day

This month, we're excited to participate in the Moutere Artisans Open Day! Twice a year, artisans in Upper Moutere open their farms, cellar doors, workshops, and galleries to the public, giving you a chance to meet the creators behind the products. We joined this wonderful group two years ago, and the experience has been overwhelmingly positive.

Join us on Sunday, October 27th, from 10 AM to 4 PM, during Labour Weekend, along with the other artisans. Our farm gates and shed doors will be open, so feel free to stop by for a behind-the-scenes look or just to say hello!

We’ll have fresh-cut flowers for sale, along with our handmade peony-based products, including hand and body soap, peony hydrosol, body butter, cleansing clay mask and all of our other peony-based products. For the food lovers, we’ll also have saffron available.

How to Care for Cut Peony Flowers: Tips for Lasting Beauty

Peonies are known for their lush blooms and captivating fragrance, making them a favorite for floral arrangements. To ensure your cut peonies last as long as possible and look stunning, follow these care tips.

Immediate Care After Cutting

Water: Place the cut stems immediately in a bucket of fresh water to prevent them from wilting. This helps them stay hydrated.
Remove Lower Leaves: Trim any leaves that will be submerged in water to prevent rot and bacteria growth.

Vase Preparation

Choose the Right Vase: Use a clean vase that’s large enough to accommodate the peony blooms without crowding.20
Water Temperature: Fill the vase with lukewarm water. This helps the flowers absorb water more effectively.
Add Flower Food: If available, add floral preservative to the water to provide nutrients and inhibit bacterial growth.

Displaying Your Peonies

Location: Keep your vase in a cool area away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources. Peonies prefer a stable temperature to thrive.
Arrangement: Arrange the peonies thoughtfully, allowing space for airflow around the blooms. Consider pairing them with complementary flowers for added beauty.

Ongoing Care

Change the Water: Every couple of days, change the water to keep it fresh and prevent bacteria buildup.
Re-cut Stems: Each time you change the water, re-cut the stems by about an inch at an angle. This ensures they can absorb water effectively.
Monitor for Wilting: Remove any wilted or browned petals promptly to maintain the arrangement’s beauty.

Peony Flower Subscription

We absolutely adore peonies, but they only have a short season, so let’s make the most of it! We’ll deliver fresh peonies straight to your door each week during the peony season, which typically lasts 6 to 8 weeks, depending on Mother Nature. Our subscription will run for 6 weeks, and you can choose to receive your peonies weekly (6 deliveries) or biweekly (3 deliveries over 6 weeks). There are four options available. This is a fantastic opportunity for florists!
